Mahjong Solitaire
Match identical free tiles to clear the layered board
Mahjong Solitaire is the calm, single-player tile-matching game built on a stacked, pyramid-like board. Instead of a deck, you get a fixed layout of tiles arranged in several layers, with the top tiles resting on the ones below. Your only goal is to clear every tile from the board, one matching pair at a time.
A tile can be selected only when it is free: nothing is sitting on top of it, and at least one of its left or right sides is open. Tap a free tile, then tap another free tile that shows the same symbol to remove the pair. Keep clearing matching pairs until the whole board is empty and you win the round.
Play from the top and the edges first, because tiles there open up the most options and free the ones buried underneath. When no move jumps out, use the Hint button to spotlight a valid pair, or Shuffle to deal the remaining tiles into a fresh, still-solvable arrangement. Every deal here is generated so a full clear is always possible, so a stuck board is just a puzzle to reorder.
Everything runs as a single self-contained page drawn on a canvas with plain symbol faces, so there are no image files to load and nothing to install. The game makes no network calls, sets no tracking cookies, and never asks for an account. Your cleared-tiles progress is kept only on the device you are using, and the same layout plays cleanly on a phone or a desktop window.
How to play
- A tile is free when nothing covers it from above and at least one side is open; only free tiles can be picked.
- Tap a free tile, then tap another free tile with the same symbol to remove the pair.
- Clear every tile to win. Use Hint to reveal a move or Shuffle to redeal the remaining tiles.
Controls
- Tap (or click) a free tile to select it, then tap a matching free tile to clear the pair.
- Buttons: New Game, Hint, and Shuffle (top bar).
- On desktop, the same click-to-select-then-click-to-match flow works with a mouse.
Tips
- Start with the top layer and the open edges; they unlock the most tiles underneath.
- Leave the centre piles for later when more sides have opened up around them.
- Stuck with no obvious pair? Hint shows a move, and Shuffle always re-deals a solvable board.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know which tiles I can pick?
A tile is selectable only when it has no tile on top of it and at least one of its left or right sides is clear; free tiles are shown in their brighter face colour.
Is every board possible to finish?
Yes. Each deal is built by a generator that records a full solution, so a complete clear always exists; Shuffle keeps that guarantee for the tiles left on the board.
What does Shuffle do?
It re-deals the tiles that are still on the board into a new arrangement that is still fully solvable, so you never get permanently stuck.
